I constantly consider the product management profession and I see varying landscape that disappears off into the distance, but not in a uniform way. Wherever I look there is something new and captivating. Ideas emerge, thoughts coalese, people wonder and wander. But all the while, despite the phantasmagoria of best practices available online, I see it as variations on some real fundamental first principles. This is the reason I use the term toppology.

to·pol·o·gy noun

  1. The way in which constituent parts are interrelated or arranged. "using distances determined in this manner ignores existing road conditions and topology that can potentially affect travel time and costs"
  2. The study of geometric properties and spatial relations unaffected by the continuous change of shape or size of figures.

For both of those reasons I use the term; the realm of product management is nothing short of topology.
